★★★★★“While exploring the Prinsep Street area around dinner time, I did a quick Google search and stumbled upon Mama Diam (妈妈店). Drawn in by the glowing reviews, I decided to give it a try, and I’m so glad I did! From the moment I stepped in, I was impressed by the concept and décor. Hidden behind a nostalgic mama shop façade, the restaurant opens into a beautifully designed dining space that’s both stylish and full of character. I ordered the 12-Hour Braised Beef Cheek with an Osmanthus Dream Mocktail, and both exceeded my expectations. The beef cheek was unbelievably tender, fall-apart, melt-in-the-mouth tender with deep, rich flavours from the long braising process. Paired with velvety mashed potatoes and savoury gravy, it was comfort food at its finest. The accompanying baby corn, carrots, broccolini, and grilled mushrooms were all cooked beautifully. I especially appreciated the attention to detail, with each vegetable perfectly cooked to retain its ideal texture. The Osmanthus Dream was wonderfully refreshing. Fragrant osmanthus oolong tea, lightly sweetened with honey and paired with chewy white pearls, made the perfect companion to the rich beef. The drinks menu is equally impressive, featuring an extensive selection of creative cocktails and mocktails. Creative concept, excellent food, warm hospitality, and even a small nostalgic gift of childhood snacks or old-school keepsakes make Mama Diam a hidden gem that’s well worth seeking out. I’ll definitely be back!”
★★★★★“I’m deeply touched by their services, the staffs were extremely friendly, patient and helpful, went extra miles to make sure our birthday celebration was perfect. All the dishes were delicately presented, while the price is on the higher side considering the portion. We may have had too much expectation for their soft shell crab after reading the reviews, but it was a bit underwhelming. They have a very interesting shopfront which is great for photo taking, but the interior is quite generic bar setting. Would be great if the nostalgic elements can be extended to the interior as well.”
★★★★★“Interesting place hidden behind a book shelf. The atmosphere is totally different from the vintage Mamadiam look at the front, more like a bar with fine dining vibe. Service is great here. Maria is our host. Gayle and Percious also did great to intro us to the menu. The food serve quickly. Overall food is of good quality and creative in the way they portray the local Hainanese dishes. We had the set menu that serve a platter of entre with hebihiam noodle, satay balls and chicken kueh paiteh. Then include also the 2 chilli crab bun. Our mains are the barramundi and chicken poach rice. Quite good overall. The poach rice is a bit underwhelming but the herbal soup is nice. Would recommend this place. Forgot to mention, they serve a great number of creative cocktails.”
★★★★★“Excellent food, service and drinks. We can recomment the filled lychees, the beef and the pork. We also did like the drinks especially the jiajia mocktail and the aperol with waterlemon "happy summer cocktail. The Mama Dian Chai Tarik Brew had a nice cinnamon flavour, but was a little to exotic for us to survive the way back in the MRT. We had very nice conversations with the friendly waiters. Go ahead like this and you will grow your revenues. We appreciated the time in your funny restaurant behind the KIOSK. We had a lot of fun. Highly recommended 👍”
